Starbound played in the San Jose area in the early 1980's and featured Danny Ray, Kathi Copans and Fred Gardner. Their music was unique and contained an eclectic mix of folk, popular, country and original material.
In 1978, Danny Ray and Kathi Copans formed Starbound in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Fred Gardner joined the group in 1979 after an unintended meeting with Danny around a pool at their apartment complex. The trio immediate discovered their capabilities for harmonizing and creating music.
Kathi and Danny wrote their first two songs; recording a 45 single featuring "The End" and "Next Time". Somehow, everyone moved to Boulder Creek, California in 1980 and began playing in quieter venues in the Silicon Valley; while continuing to write their music. The Wine Cellar in Los Gatos was a particularly popular venue for the group and one could count on a rousing Saturday night with a dedicated following.
Starbound completed their album "Beginning From The End" at the end of 1980. They held a major concert in 1981 and continued to play in the area. Eventually the group disbanded and the three went their separate ways.
